Flower Biscuits
Ingredients:
350g Plain Flour
100g Self-raising Flour
125g Granulated Sugar
125g Unsalted Butter
125ml Golden Syrup
1 large Egg
Royal Icing:
600g Icing Sugar
Cold Water
Orange food dye
Method:
Makes 24 biscuits.
Preheat the oven to 160 degrees and line two baking trays with greaseproof paper.

-
Start by sifting the two flours into the bowl, adding in the sugar and then mix well.
-
Next, add in the butter and using your fingertips rub the ingredients together until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
-
After you’ve formed fine breadcrumbs, create a well in the centre of the bowl and add in the golden syrup and beaten egg.
-
Mix the ingredients together well until you form a ball of dough.
-
Wrap the dough in cling film and place in the fridge for 20-30mintues.
-
Once chilled, roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut out the shapes using a cutter or stencil.
-
Once you’ve cut out your shapes, place them on your previously prepared baking trays and cook them in the oven for 10 minutes. (I had 6 biscuits on each tray and cooked 12 at a time).
-
Once cooked, transfer the biscuits to a wire rack and allow to cool.
-
Whilst cooling, you can make your icing. Sift the icing sugar into a bowl and slowly add in cold water stirring between each addition. Make sure you don’t add too much water or your icing will be too runny.
-
After you’ve made your icing, you can decorate your biscuits as you want. To make coloured icing you can add different coloured food dyes or to create a flower pattern, I used a paint brush and painted on the food dye.
Try something new, be creative and enjoy your biscuits!
