Pretty In Pink!

I’ve been busy with assignments and deadlines that the last time I baked seems like ages ago! However I’ve always got time for a birthday cake and with Christmas just around the corner I'm going to bake some festive favourites!

I made this cake for one of my housemates 20th Birthdays! We’ve had so many birthday celebrations lately that baking birthday cakes has become a regular occurrence! This cake was a five tier Victoria sponge cake sandwiched together with strawberry jam and covered in vanilla butter icing. I chose to create different pink shades of butter icing to decorate this cake and piped the icing into flower shapes, to cover the whole cake.

Piping the icing onto the cake proved more difficult than I initially anticipated, but I managed to stick with it and produce a cake with icing which just about resembled flowers! I then finished the cake with pink wafer butterflies. I’m glad this cake was a success!
