Happy Birthday Maddy!

Good Friday saw the celebration of my sisters 23rd birthday. So I thought I’d combine Easter and her Birthday together, to create her an Easter themed birthday cake.

As subtly hinted, my sister asked for a cake involving mini eggs and chocolate so that’s exactly what I did. I decided to make her a three tier chocolate cake, sandwiched together with vanilla butter icing and decorated with mini eggs. I chose to ice the cake using a naked icing technique something which I’ve never done before.

Having made the cake sponges at my uni house, I drove them home on Thursday evening to decorate and assemble, which seemed like the least risky idea! I didn’t fancy a passenger seat of squashed cake and butter icing!

The sponges made it back and after multiple attempts I was able to finally get my sister out the kitchen on Thursday evening to finish decorating the cake!

Thankfully the cake went down a treat and she loved it!
